April 16th the Gear Up for Ag Health and Safety™ program spent the morning with the first year Crop Technology Students and the afternoon with the Animal Science Students at Lakeland College. Thank you Farm Credit Canada and 3M Canada for helping making it possible for students to learn more about how to protect themselves from ag health and safety hazards. Student surveys indicate it was a very positive day:
- 96 % of 107 students who took the pre-survey stated they plan to work in Agriculture
- 70 % are concerned about the health and safety of their family or friends who work in Ag
- 78 % find value in receiving personal protective equipment such as hearing protection, chemical gloves, coverall, respirator, and safety glasses
- 115 of 116 student who took the Post Kahoot survey on the day of the program said they learned at least one or several knew things from the Gear Up for Ag Health and Safety™ program
Students received a start up PPE kit along with customized educational presentations based on the pre-survey results and input from college class instructors.
